I walked in bright-eyed, genuinely believing I could change the world.
Instead, I learned a lesson I never signed up for: push until there is nothing left to give. Work off the clock. Make yourself smaller. Just survive another day.
So I did.
I skipped meals. Forgot my meds. Lost weight.
I was so foggy and depleted that I came home one evening, and got third-degree burns while making dinner.
When the doctor looked me in the eyes and said 'there is no way you can return to work tomorrow; something cracked open in me.
I realized how much pain I had been willing to tolerate just to keep going.

I chose support.
I started counseling, coaching, and psychiatry. And for the first time, I understood how my brain actually worked.
Turns out, I wasn't lazy. I wasn't broken. I had ADHD and had been operating through as if I was someone else.
With the right support, I built a life I actually wanted to keep waking up to.
Now I leave work on time. I take morning walks with my husband and our dog. I make it to choral practice. I share dinners with friends. And none of it drains me or leaves me dreading tomorrow.
